In 2010, George Palmer – London entrepreneur – founded SendOwl because he discovered a gap in the current eCommerce offers. He created an easy way for entrepreneurs to sell digital products via their website. Today, SendOwl has evolved into a full-fledged shopping cart solution.

SendOwl allows any entrepreneur to sell services, memberships, drip content, physical goods, subscriptions, books, comics, music, and other digital products. We’re going to get into all the important features in our SendOwl review.

It’s definitely the cheapest software and takes only a few minutes to start selling your products. SendOwl is stealing customers from other major players like BigCommerce, Shopify, and Subbly.

Shall we dive into our SendOwl review??

SendOwl Sales

SendOwl is a simple shopping cart app you can deploy almost anywhere for your digital and physical products. Here are 3 ways to can sell your products with SendOwl:

  • Your Own Website – You can use a SendOwl hosting website, a SiteGround hosted website, or other free blogging solutions like WordPress. However, SendOwl cart provide product listings. SendOwl provides a check-out form.
  • Social Media – If you have a large Instagram, TikTok, Twitter, Facebook, or other social media following, you can simply add SendOwl’s Buy button to your accounts. The Buy button provides a check-out form for your customers to make purchases.
  • Shopify – Since Shopify doesn’t focus on digital products, you can integrate your Shopify account, so you can sell memberships, subscriptions, or other digital products.

SendOwl is loaded with marketing, templates, payment gateways, and different product type features. It’s simple user interface makes selling easy. You can sell anything from digital products, software, subscriptions, memberships, music, and books to physical products. We’re discuss only a handful of features in our SendOwl revew.

SendOwl provides easy-to-use and ready-to-use checkout templates, which you can implement within a few seconds. However, there isn’t an option to assign a specific checkout template to a specific product.

On the other hand, you wouldn’t want to do that because it doesn’t make sense at all. The same check out process provides a uniform user experience. Could you imagine having to go through a different checkout line for every product at Target or on Amazon? It create a frustrating buying experience.

What’s more, you can configure each template to your liking such as adding a Dropbox save option, assigning a different color for the buy button, and more. Lastly, you can add some CSS to match your company’s branding.

SendOwl provides all the major payment gateways to help you sell – BitPay, Stripe, and PayPal. What’s more, Apple Pay and Bitcoin payments are supported by Stripe. However, isn’t supported by SendOwl anymore.

Unfortunately, Bitcoin is the only cryptocurrency supported by Stripe, which shouldn’t be an issue. There isn’t many online or brick-and-mortar shops that accepts Bitcoin.

Lastly, Stripe and PayPal’s payment gateways are the online standard for processing online purchases. It’s used by all the major eCommerce platforms like Shopify, BigCommerce, and Subbly. However, we would like SendOwl to other major payment gateways like, Amazon Pay, and Ali Pay.

After choosing your payment gateway, you’re ready to start taking payments for your products!

What kind of products can you use SendOwl for? You can sell anything from digital and physical products. However, SendOwl may not be right for everyone especially for entrepreneurs who want to spend money on additional money for apps. For anyone selling digital assets, it’s probably the best option due to its features and functionality.

What are the product types on SendOwl?

Adding Product Types

With SendOwl, you can integrate S2Member, Wishlist Member, or MemberMouse. It’ll make your payment processing run smoother and seamless. Why only those 3?

Let’s be honest. There are literally millions of membership software on the internet and it would be impossible to integrate with each one. SendOwl decided to integrate with the most popular ones.

Lastly, SendOwl works with Zapier, so you can automate a lot of your processes. Plus, SendOwl can be integrated with your Shopify store for those who don’t like that Shopify doesn’t support digital products or recurring payments like subscriptions.

Drip Content

What about drip content? SendOwl has you covered. You can easily set up drip content for your customers by either setting up release timelines for content or releasing it all at once.

SendOwl’s drip content is one of its stand-out features compared to other big eCommerce platforms like BigCommerce, Shopify, or Subbly. Moreover, with its WishList integration, you’re able to grant access to your content based on timelines.

For example, you can release your tutorial video series on a weekly basis and release your eBooks on a monthly basis. In other words, you can mix and match your content release timelines. It’s an awesome feature that isn’t available on Shopify, BigCommerce, or Subbly.

What else? You can sell your expertise by selecting the services product type. In other words, it’s the perfect solution for online coaches, developers, bookkeepers, virtual assistants, and so forth. You can sell any of your services.

The services option works the same way as the other product types, but you without any license keys or files to download. It’s a great way to bundle your software with upgrades or maintenance upsells.

Finally, SendOwl’s marketing tools can be used for service product types.

Product Type Services

Digital Products

Now, this is where SendOwl really shines. Its digital product type is simple to setup and comes with features like designating the Download folder, limiting Download Attempts, and confirming Download Validity.

However, it kicks butt with their auto-generating license keys. The auto-generate license keys protect your digital assets from being pirated and shared on a dark web form free to download. In short, people will have to purchase your products for them to utilize it. It’s definitely worth the monthly fee.

Physical Products

Firstly, with SendOwl, you can sell digital products and it comes with some great features. On physical products, you can limit sales on them. The checkout process is the same and the only difference is an extra page to collect your customer’s shipping address.

It’s a standard option. It’s a standard option. To be honest, Shopify, BigCommerce, Wix, or Subbly are probably better for selling physical products. However, SendOwl is a good enough option if you have a handful of physical products.

Next up with our SendOwl review, we want to highlight SendOwl’s marketing tools. It provides you upsells, quick sells, mailing list, discounts, cart abandonment, and a built-in affiliate program. Everything is included with their most popular plan.

An eCommerce shopping cart is not worth using if it doesn’t offer the bare essentials like coupons and discounts. SendOwl got you covered and their discounts functionality is simple, clean, and straightforward.

Coupons aren’t one-size-fits-all. With SendOwl, you can either choose a fixed or percentage coupon. What’s more, you can set product limits, time limits, use limits, and cart minimums. Moreover, SendOwl will auto-generate discount codes if you don’t want to create a custom code.

Lastly, I would be nice to auto-generate coupons for affiliates instead of manually creating one for each affiliate.

SendOwl’s upsell function allows you to set an upsell before or after payment. Secondly, there’s an ability to create an offer price by assigning specific products for upsells. Finally, you can add some selling text for the upsell.

Quick Sells

SendOwl’s Quick Sells allows you to send a link, embedded your product on your website, or add it your social media account. The HTML code has four options to make it easy to sell – Buy Now, Add to Cart, View Cart, View Product.

Quick Sell has a really short checkout time. You want the checkout process to be simple, fast, seamless, and frustration free. Fewer steps in the checkout process equates higher the conversion rates.

Affiliate Program

SendOwl offers a built-in affiliate program for its users, which no other eCommerce platform or shopping cart does the same. An affiliate program is one of the best ways to promote your products.

How does it work? Affiliates promote your products via a link and only get paid for making sales. In other words, they get a commission. This is the probably the most cost effective marketing program unlike social media marketing.

Social media (i.e., Influencer) marketing is based on superficial metrics such as likes and comments and there is no way to track sales made by the influencer. Plus, likes and comments can be bought and inflated by Instagram pod engagement.

SendOwl’s affiliate program provides customization functionality like pay delays, cookie expirations, direct selling, designating the cookie period, and which affiliate gets the referral (e.g., the last or first affiliate to refer the sale).

Mailing Lists

Email marketing is one of the most marking methods. All the major companies uses it like Expedia, Microsoft, Facebook, Amazon, Google, and so forth. They use it because it works.

SendOwl’s mailing list feature integrates with all the popular email marketing services. Here are the integrated services:

  • ActiveCampaign
  • AWeber
  • Campaign Monitor
  • Constant Contact
  • ConvertKit
  • Drip
  • GetResponse
  • InfusionSoft
  • Mad Mimi
  • MailChimp
  • MailerLite
  • Sendy

Cart Abandonment

Cart abandonment is the cause of many loss sells. It’s usually because the checkout process is too frustrating, long, or they change their mind. SendOwl understands this, so they made it easy to recover the sale.

SendOwl’s Cart Abandonment feature will ask the customer to enter their email. If they abandoned the cart, SendOwl will send a “friendly” reminder.

SendOwl’s reporting is really simple and easy to understand. It comes with reporting dashboards and downloadable reports to help you manage your business. You can easily analyze your business’s success.

What’s more, you can easily dissect the reports by currency, gross, and dates. With dates, you can determine the effectiveness of your marketing campaigns. Also, there’s a conversion rate.

Security is always an important discussion for any service, which we will discuss now in our SendOwl review. SendOwl’s connection is SSL encrypted. SSL encryption provides a secured connection and it’s required for all eCommerce sites.

What’s more, SendOwl provides storage space and you can host your digital products. It’s a much better solution, so you don’t have to monitor any server issues. SendOwl manages everything for you.

Moreover, your customers can save their purchases with SendOwl’s Dropbox integration. If they don’t have Dropbox, they can download once the payment is processed. The checkout process is seamless and easy.

For PDF files, SendOwl provides a PDF stamping option. The PDF stamping includes customer’s information on it, so your PDF files can be traced back to the customer. It’s definitely deters your customer from giving out the file for free.

Finally, the download links can be customized. You’re able to limit download permissions and it has an expiration on it. For videos, you have the option to stream it versus providing a download link.

There will always be technology issues with any platform. It could be a server issues, a learning curve, or other technical problems. SendOwl has your back by providing a lot of self-help documentation, an online help center, and email support.

It would be nice if SendOwl provided live chat support. Unfortunately, there isn’t a Facebook group for people who wants a community. However, you can always send them a support ticket if you need any help.
